On its way back from a five-year expedition, Darwin‘s cabinet at the HMS Beagle was blooming with botanical treasures. The scent of oakwood with saline notes from the ship, floating particles of rum and gunpowder mixed with fossils, ambergris, minerals, and fresh plants cropped from the lands that inspired “On the origin of the species”
